Red Stick FreeUse (nee freecycle) Network
|
Welcome to Baton Rouge's premier freeuse-freecycle network,
Red Stick FreeUse Network (RSFN) of Greater Baton
Rouge, where one person's trash is another's treasure!

"Freecycling (and FreeUse) is an innovative
concept that harnesses the power of the
Internet to do what the Internet does best --
eliminate the middleman and empower the
individual.
It's a perfect consumer-friendly circle: no
overhead, no intermediaries, no money
changing hands, no waste and no catch, and
everyone's happy.
...one simple, brilliant idea that's changing
the world."

(RSFN) is hosted for free by

SUGGESTION TO HELP YOUR FREECYCLE COMMUNITY GROW: "Network"--Tell your family, co-workers, friends, classmates; Announce it at your meetings; Inform your church members; KNOW TEACHERS THAT NEED CLASS SUPPLIES? They should join.
...brainstorm and help this movement grow! We can supply flyers.

SEEK: Non-profits, churches, schools, teachers...as members!
karma \Kar"ma\, n.: 1. The effects of a person's actions that determine his destiny; 2. A distinctive aura, atmosphere, or feeling.
|
Links the members directly to all
the OFFER, SEEK, ADMIN, etc.,
messages that are posted.
WHEN THEY JOIN OR LATER,
MOST OF THE MEMBERS HAVE
MESSAGES AUTOMATICALLY
SENT TO THEIR EMAIL.
OFFER an item for free reuse or
recycling or place a "seek"
message to request an item.
How we keep landfills empty!
What is this FreeUse thing about?
Whether you're looking to OFFER or SEEK an
item, RSFN is the place to do it...furniture,
clothes, appliances, computers, toys, a pile
of dirt, plants, books, used moving boxes,
and all things in between. Our goal is to
reduce waste by connecting people who
would otherwise throw away unwanted items
with others seeking those same items.
No item is too big or too small;
but since this is a FREEuse
list, all items must be 100% free.
TO START:
(1) Join the RSFN group (Simply, either [a]
Click on the "JOIN" button or the "JOIN the
RSFN" link in the left column or [b] Go to the
RSFN Group Home Page and use the Join
Group link there. Get a yahoo ID at that time, if
you don't have one [required]...very easy.); (By
the way, when you register, sign-in or go to the Group
Home Page, etc., you will notice that the host of the
site, Yahoo!, places ads in various locations. This is
our trade-off for the free hosting service. Don't fret,
they are harmless...personally, I ignore them.)
(2) Simply check your email** (Or click on the
link "READ Messages-Posts" on this page or
see the Messages at the RSFN Group
Homepage) to see what fellow members want
to give away or seek; AND
(3) Click on "Post" to OFFER an item you
would otherwise "trash" or request something
you seek (per basic Guideline that we send
you when you join).
**TIP: If you do not want every post in your
email in-box, you can set your email group
preferences to DAILY DIGEST for one email a
day with all of that day's posts. See the Email
Tips in the links column for essential info.
Once you join, a Welcome email
containing etiquette, guidelines
and suggestions will be sent to
you...these are very important.
Please read through these
messages prior to participating.
CONTACT Scott (moderator) at his email--

for FLYERS or to arrange an interview or
acquire a press release.
Who we are--
Well, first, this is YOUR site
and YOUR message board...this
movement is driven toward its
goals by its dedicated members like you.
The volunteer Moderators of this message
board are citizens in the Greater Baton
Rouge area or approved Moderators from
other U.S. or international cities that assist
the local Moderators when they are out of
town, picking up the kids from practice, etc.
The original Moderator, Scott, developed this
site as a community service on May 13, 2004.
His son, Scott, Jr., a local college student, is
also a fill-in member of the moderation team.
What do the Moderators do?
We sincerely care about our members and
the content of the message board. We do
our best to make the RSFN a friendly and fair
community and an effective means for the
citizens of Greater Baton Rouge to do a little
bit to help the environment, develop good will
in the city and parish, and contribute to the
positive karma of which we can all use just a
little bit more.
The Moderators review every post (including
the "Offers") before they are approved for
general viewing. The Moderators will not
accept an offered item on RSFN until it is
posted for at least 12 hours.
