The FreeUse Network is a Not-for-Profit Community Service Group based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

FreeUse affiliate groups across North America and around the Earth are provided a nationally-issued set of
Guidelines for how it should operate, but each group is given flexibility to make their own decisions as to
how their daily operation is run.  Not all of the guidelines we provide 'fit' into the local area with demographic
and economic differences, so each Group has the ability to make adjustments as they see fit.

FreeUse, while acting as a Not-for-Profit Community Service Group, is not a 501c3 IRS-recognized non-
profit organization at this time and any contributions made to it or transactions/giving that occurs within a
FreeUse Group are not considered tax-deductible in any way, shape or form.

A Very Brief History:

FreeUse Network was started in May 2004 as a local freecycle group by an Environmental Engineer, Mr.
Scott Perkins, to promote waste reduction in Baton Rouge LA by helping to keep reusable items out of
landfills and to develop a helpful community of caring people.  In October 2005, due to freecycle losing it's
grassroots appeal, FreeUse was born.

By the way, Mr. Perkins has consulted with regulatory agencies, business and industries regarding
environmental issues across the USA and in Europe.  In his 17 year career as an Environmental
Scientist/Specialist, he has written operations manuals for and/or performed environmental compliance
audits for hazardous waste incinerators, wastewater treatment plants, offshore and onshore oil and gas
production and exploration platforms and facilities, waste processing systems, chemical production plants,
PCB transformer treatment systems and landfills, etc.  Mr. Perkins has performed over 700 inspections of
various types of facilities worldwide.

Funding, Trademarks, etc.:

The FreeUse Network's annual budget is whatever Mr. Perkins puts into it.

Unlike some free-reuse and free-recycle groups, The FreeUse Network will NEVER apply for a trademark
for "our name", will NEVER prohibit people from using the term "freeuse" as a verb (e.g., "happy freeusing"),
will NEVER solicit payment from nor align ourselves with hazardous waste companies that wish to white-
wash their history of non-compliance, pollution and fines, will NEVER pay one dime to those of us
VOLUNTEERS who will keep this a grassroots group with the following focus: Keep reuseable items out of
landfills, help those in need and develop a caring community of members worldwide.

You see, giving things away for free to those who can reuse them was not invented in October 2005 (The
FreeUse Independence Day [OK, month]) nor May 2004 (when the seed of The FreeUse Network was
planted) nor even May 2003 (when The Freecycle Network, our former affiliate, was created) , it came about
the time man separated from primates, as a species.

How, then, can one ever expect to 'trademark' giving?  This concept is, therefore, FREE to USE!
